Harvard Combined Adult Congenital Heart Disease and Pulmonary Hypertension Fellowship Program

Overview

The overall education goal of the Adult Congenital Heart Disease and Pulmonary Hypertension Fellowship is to prepare trainees to practice competently and independently as experts in the clinical care of adult congenital heart patients and to advance the field of adult congenital heart disease by scientific discovery.

The training program encompasses a broad depth of experiences designed to provide expertise in the management of adults with congenital heart disease and pulmonary vascular disease. It places candidates on a career pathway for excellence in clinical care, innovative research, and education in ACHD. The goal of the fellowship is to provide a strong foundation for program building and leadership in ACHD.

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Completion of a general cardiology fellowship
  • Either Adult Cardiovascular Disease (ACGME‑accredited) or Pediatric Cardiology (ACGME‑accredited)

Board‑certified or board‑eligible in one of the following:

  • Cardiovascular Disease (ABIM).
  • Pediatric Cardiology (ABP).

Curriculum

The clinical program includes training in outpatient and inpatient care with collaboration of multidisciplinary programs including pulmonary vascular disease, advanced heart failure, aortic conditions and connective tissue disorders, electrophysiology, exercise physiology, cardiac imaging, interventional cardiology, cardiac intensive care, and pregnancy and cardiovascular disease. Fellows actively participate in dedicated conferences to discuss management issues in ACHD patients.

Research Experience

The Cardiovascular Medicine Division at each of these hospitals has a longstanding record of leadership in clinical and basic science research. Fellows gain exposure to cutting‑edge technologies and innovative investigative approaches across a broad network of world‑class laboratories. Research may be conducted at BCH, BWH, MGH, Harvard Medical School, MIT, or other affiliated Harvard University sites, offering unparalleled opportunities for mentorship and discovery.

Are interviews in person or virtual?
In line with current institutional guidelines, all interviews continue to be conducted virtually. However, applicants can visit the fellowship program in person if they choose for their own information, but it will not be weighted as part of the interview or application process.
