Overview
The BWH Center for Weight Management and Wellness (CWMW) offers a formal one-year clinical fellowship in obesity medicine. The clinic is multidisciplinary and co-located with dietitians, psychologists, and surgical colleagues, fostering continuous interaction and streamlined patient care. Fellows gain direct experience on all medical treatment options for patients with obesity. Several multidisciplinary meetings and conferences take place monthly, and fellows are expected to actively participate. Opportunities for clinical and translational research are available throughout the year.
Requirements
Eligible applicants should have graduated from an accredited internal medicine or family medicine residency. Applications should be submitted through the Obesity Medicine Fellowship Council.
Curriculum
The fellowship includes obesity medicine training with extensive experience in pharmacotherapy and lifestyle management programs. Clinical sessions are approximately 8 per week (90% outpatient, 10% inpatient). Additional rotations may include pediatric obesity, weight management in OB/GYN, advanced diabetes management, sleep medicine, surgery, behavioral health, and dietician training. Weekly academic meetings include formal obesity medicine didactics, journal club, case presentations, and multidisciplinary team discussions.
Research Experience
Opportunities for clinical and translational research are available over the course of the year. Fellows are expected to actively participate in scholarly activities.
