Overview
The MGH Subspecialty Fellowship in Obesity Medicine and Nutrition at the Obesity, Metabolism, and Nutrition Institute (OMNI) provides advanced clinical training in comprehensive obesity care. The program covers pharmacotherapy, behavioral health interventions, nutrition management, and multidisciplinary approaches to obesity treatment. Fellows gain expertise in all medical treatment options for patients with obesity. Clinical sessions are approximately 8 per week (90% outpatient, 10% inpatient). The fellow is required to submit at least one manuscript and give a presentation at Endocrinology Grand Rounds during the fellowship.
Requirements
Completed ACGME-accredited residency program. Apply through the Obesity Medicine Fellowship Council.
Curriculum
Outpatient obesity medicine clinic (90% of time). Inpatient obesity consultations (10%). Rotations may include pediatric obesity (elective), weight management in OB/GYN, advanced diabetes management, sleep medicine, surgery, behavioral health, and dietician. Weekly academic meetings include formal obesity medicine didactics, journal club, and case presentations. 20 vacation days/year plus 10 CME days/year.
Research Experience
Required to submit at least one manuscript and present at Endocrinology Grand Rounds. Clinical and translational research opportunities in obesity science, metabolism, and nutrition.
