Overview
The majority of the fellowship is focused on clinical care. The fellowship follows a graduated independence model: at the beginning of the fellowship every visit is discussed and staffed, while by the end of the year fellows will be able to largely manage general neurology patients independently, though with ongoing discussion and support from faculty, throughout.
This one-year fellowship is focused on training excellent clinical general neurologists with the integration of formal and informal didactics, fellows as teachers and research activities. Fellows will care for patients with general neurologic disorders and will rotate within many of our subspecialty divisions.
Our fellowship adheres to Mass General Brigham GME policies.
Requirements
Applicants must be a graduate of a neurology residency program in neurology accredited by the ACGME or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). The fellow must be board certified or eligible for certification in a primary ABPN or RCPSC specialty. Fellows must be eligible to obtain a full MA state license. We are unable to sponsor visas that do not allow the fellow to obtain a full MA license.
Curriculum
The fellowship will encompass advanced training specific to ambulatory general neurology in the academic setting. The overarching goal is to train master academic clinical neurologists. This will be accomplished by core longitudinal ambulatory clinics in general neurology predominantly, but with dedicated time in key subspecialities pertinent to general neurology including cognitive behavioral neurology, epilepsy, functional neurologic disorders, headache, movement disorders, and neuromuscular medicine. Other subspecialty electives will also be offered, such as autoimmune neurology, autonomic, and multiple sclerosis.
Another integral component of the fellowship will be positioning our fellows as teachers. This will include dedicated time precepting our MGB neurology residents in outpatient clinic.
Didactics are woven throughout the fellowship and include formal teaching conferences. Fellows are also strongly encouraged to attend local and national educational conferences.
Research Experience
Fellows are expected to complete a scholarly project during the year, which could include publication of quality improvement projects, literature reviews, case reports/series, amongst many other academic projects based on fellow interest. Many opportunities for formal and informal teaching are provided throughout the year, ranging from formal presentations at conferences to having residents and other rotators shadow in clinic.
