Overview

The Massachusetts General Hospital Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship provides advanced training in the comprehensive care of patients with gynecologic malignancies. Fellows work within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute, delivering high volume and patient-centered surgical and multidisciplinary cancer care.

Over three years, fellows gain expertise in complex pelvic surgery, inpatient oncology and post-operative care, chemotherapy, gynecologic pathology, pain management, palliative care and survivorship care. Training includes a fellow-driven project in basic science and/or clinical research. All clinical activities are centralized at the Massachusetts General Hospital main campus. At the conclusion of this training program, fellows are prepared to practice independently and become leaders in the field of gynecologic oncology.

Program Highlights

  • High patient volume with diverse disease complexity.
  • Progressive surgical autonomy under expert supervision at single site of practice.
  • Integrated clinical and research training.
  • Multidisciplinary collaboration across oncology services.

Requirements

  • Completion of an ACGME‑ or RCPSC‑accredited OB/GYN residency.
  • Successful completion of the ABOG written examination.

Curriculum

The curriculum emphasizes direct faculty supervision, graduated autonomy, and competency-based advancement. Senior fellows have additional opportunities to pursue clinical research, trial development, database analysis, and resident mentorship. Fellows receive formal training in grant writing, manuscript preparation, and presentation at national meetings.
