Overview
This program provides comprehensive, hands-on training in all aspects of oculoplastic surgery, including eyelid, orbit, lacrimal, and cosmetic surgery. In addition, the fellow will be actively involved in the residency training program, working alongside and directly supervising residents.
The fellowship's primary location is at Massachusetts Eye and Ear—a major tertiary and quaternary care center in New England, nationally and internationally. This free-standing hospital provides emergency and referral services encompassing all specialties of ophthalmology.
In addition, the VA Boston Healthcare System in Jamaica Plain is another major teaching site. The Boston VA is a busy regional referral center for all of New England, and the residents who staff the VA are from Mass Eye and Ear and Boston University.
Other hospital locations include:
- Massachusetts General Hospital
- Brigham and Women's Hospital
- Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
Start date: July (odd years)
Program length: 2 years
Number of positions available each odd year: 1
SF Match number: 4642
Curriculum
Working closely with Dr. Yoon and other oculoplastic faculty, fellows gain experience in a wide variety of surgical procedures. Fellows will also interact with physicians in a variety of other specialties, including otolaryngology, oral maxillofacial surgery, dermatology, Mohs surgery, neuroradiology, plastic surgery, and ophthalmic pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital and other affiliated facilities
There are two alternating rotations, shared with the other ASOPRS fellow, and lasting six months at a time. During each rotation, the fellow will spend about two days in clinic, two and a half days in the OR, and a half day of office procedures or elective time. The rotations allow for the fellow to work with all of the faculty preceptors.
