Overview

McLean Hospital’s Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Adult and Geriatric Neuropsychology, led by Regan Patrick, PhD, is committed to ensuring our trainees develop expertise in neuropsychological and psychodiagnostic assessment, as well as the integration of clinical science and practice. We foster an environment in which fellows are prepared for independent practice and board certification in clinical neuropsychology. Scholarly engagement and cultural competency are emphasized throughout all aspects of training and professional development.

The fellowship is a full-time, two-year program in which postdocs gain deep experience with all facets of the assessment process, while working with adult/geriatric patients who often have complex neuropsychiatric, neurologic, and/or medical backgrounds. Evaluations are conducted across multiple settings, including a general outpatient clinic, a specialized memory disorders assessment clinic, and inpatient/residential consultations throughout McLean. Individual and group supervision for all clinical activities is provided in accordance with APA and licensing requirements.

Extensive didactic programming is also provided, including seminars on conceptual and practical issues related to neuropsychological and psychodiagnostic assessment, journal club meetings focused on contemporary research in psychopathology, monthly guest speakers from faculty within and outside the MGB/McLean and Harvard Medical School (HMS) communities, monthly fact-finding sessions that broadly align with the ABPP-CN format, behavioral neurology clinical rounds, psychiatry grand rounds, and many others.

Fellows also complete an academic/research project, with the aim of presenting this work at scientific conferences, co-authoring manuscript(s) for publication, or generating some other scholarly work product (e.g., review paper, pilot grant application, etc.). There are numerous research opportunities and resources available within our department, throughout McLean Hospital, and across the broader MGB and HMS systems. Depending on individual interest and experience, the fellowship may be modified in Year 2 to accommodate more research activities. Fellows will be granted an academic appointment in the Department of Psychiatry at HMS.
