Overview

The Hanidziar Lab investigates the immune mechanisms underlying acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and the effects of hyperoxia on the lungs. Our research has demonstrated that the progression of experimental hyperoxic lung injury is immune cell-dependent. Building on these findings, we are now developing and testing novel therapeutic strategies designed to suppress tissue-destructive immune responses -including those driven by neutrophils and NKT cells - while reinforcing tissue-protective pathways, such as regulatory B cell function, to mitigate lung injury. In collaboration with the Vaccine and Immunotherapy Center, we are currently exploring adoptive B cell therapy as an innovative treatment approach for ARDS.

The Poznansky lab at VIC explores novel mechanisms in immunology that reveal new therapeutic approaches for cancer, infectious and immune mediated diseases

Ruxandra Sîrbulescu, PhD

The Sîrbulescu Laboratory is interested in developing novel cell-based immunotherapies for the treatment of traumatic nervous system injuries, neurodegenerative diseases, and chronic wounds, and in understanding the mechanisms that allow certain cells to exert their pro-healing functions.
