Overview
The Hasson Laboratory explores the use of mobile technology to increase rates of lung cancer screening in less resourced neighborhoods and communities in eastern Massachusetts.
Specifically, Dr. Hasson’s health services research is focused on prioritizing health equity to enhance patient access and outcomes for the early detection of lung cancer. During her time at Dartmouth-Hitchcock, she investigated barriers and facilitators to lung cancer screening access in rural areas through a mobile screening initiative supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Since her recruitment to Brigham and Women’s Hospital and current service as the Director of the Office for Engagement and Enrichment in the Center for Academic Development and Enrichment (CADE) at Mass General Brigham in Boston Massachusetts, Dr. Hasson's goal has been to translate this research into urban areas in and around Boston, Massachusetts.
Research Projects
Mobile Lung Cancer Screening
Dr. Hasson is working with Mass General Brigham and local community leaders to improve access to lung cancer screening in neighborhoods and communities with less resources within and surrounding Boston, Massachusetts by bringing services directly to them. Currently she is piloting two specific strategies to increase access to lung cancer screening:
- Combining mobile lung cancer screening with mobile health access resources include the Community Care Vans of MGB, and
- Piloting a 3-step implementation model to build new mobile lung cancer screening programs by identifying the need using geospatial mapping, co-producing with local communities, and piloting mobile lung cancer screening clinics.
