Overview

The Jaklitsch Lab focuses on clinical outcomes research utilizing both divisional as well as national databases. Previous research projects focused on various thoracic malignancies, benign thoracic disease and preoperative assessments. In addition, the lab specializes in outcomes of elderly patients and collaborates routinely with the Division of Aging. There are two research fellowships within Dr. Jaklitsch’s lab: the John D. Mitchell Thoracic Oncology Research Fellowship and the John D. Mitchell Surgical Education Fellowship. The former focuses on outcomes in thoracic oncology while the latter contributes to residency curriculum and simulation models. Dr. Jaklitsch has done research at the National Institutes of Health on angiogenesis and gene transfer. His major clinical interest is lung cancer, including the unique needs of elderly cancer patients and the use of minimally invasive techniques such as video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS).
