Sinus and Nasal Disorders Lab

Investigating conditions that affect the olfactory system.

Overview

At Mass Eye and Ear, we pride ourselves on the strong role that research plays in supporting and enhancing the clinical care provided to our patients. Being a part of this hospital uniquely positions us to transform the way patients are treated through our research efforts that are focused on understanding the mechanisms of chronic sinus disease and investigating our sense of smell.

Our investigators seek to better understand sinus and nasal disorders in order to develop new therapies and techniques for the diagnosis and treatment of such conditions. Ongoing research in this area covers a broad range of basic science, translational, and clinical research. Investigators focus on common conditions such as chronic rhinosinusitis, nasal polyp disease, taste and smell loss, tumors of the nose and sinuses, and obstructive sleep apnea.

Research Projects

  • The mechanisms of chronic rhinosinusitis
  • Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps
  • Epithelial immunity
  • The physiology and mechanism of olfactory deficits
  • New techniques in odor therapy to treat nerve damage
  • Novel drug delivery devices
  • Drug eluting stents and polymers

Many clinical projects are performed as collaborative efforts with many investigators.
