Overview

The Richelle C. Charles Laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital focuses on elucidating host–pathogen interactions and characterizing immune responses to enteric pathogens, with the overarching goal of improving vaccines and diagnostics for diarrheal diseases.

Research Projects

  • Development of improved diagnostics for acute and chronic Salmonella infections.
  • Advancement of seroepidemiologic tools for enteric infections to enhance disease burden estimates and evaluate intervention impact
  • Optimization of vaccine strategies for cholera.
  • Immunophenotyping of host responses to enteric pathogens and vaccines to define immune correlates of protection against Vibrio cholerae and typhoidal Salmonella infections.
