Overview
The Duvall Laboratory conducts clinical translational research to investigate immune mechanisms that drive and resolve lung inflammation in asthma, RSV, and critical illness. Our research bridges bedside observations with mechanistic studies of human immunity to define why some patients with pulmonary infection and injury develop severe disease, respiratory failure, and chronic inflammation.
Our translational research focuses on innate immunity, with particular interest in natural killer (NK) cells and endogenous pathways of inflammation resolution in critically ill children with RSV infection in the pediatric ICU and in patients with severe asthma enrolled in the Severe Asthma Research Program (SARP). Through these patient-centered investigations, we seek to define how immune cell function, inflammation resolution circuits, and host responses influence clinical disease severity and recovery.
By integrating patient-centered clinical investigation with mechanistic immunology, our long-term goal is to identify cellular and molecular pathways that regulate inflammation in severe respiratory diseases and generate insights that inform future approaches to prevention, risk stratification, and treatment.
