Thank you for your interest in the Brigham and Women's Perioperative Medicine Fellowship program. We are truly proud of the fellowship experience we offer at our institution. The Brigham and Women's Hospital Anesthesiology Department has renowned faculty who are dedicated to the teaching and support of our accomplished residents so that they will be superbly prepared to practice in any setting, however challenging.

Overview
The goal of this Fellowship is to provide a diverse set of educational experiences tailored towards the individual needs and background of the fellow. Training will offer opportunities to develop clinical, organizational, and managerial skills necessary to become a perioperative medicine consultant. The fellow will be exposed to the principles of perioperative services management, innovation, and development of clinical pathways, as well as a systems-based approach to quality, safety, leadership, and value-based care. The Fellowship will provide a well-rounded educational experience consisting of administrative rotations, didactics, research, and clinical work to create leaders in perioperative medicine.
The Fellowship is a 12-month, full-time experience consisting of four major components: administrative rotations, didactics, projects and research and a clinical commitment as a staff (Attending) anesthesiologist. The Fellowship aims to provide a diverse set of educational experiences tailored towards individual needs and background of each fellow.

Clinical Experience
The Fellow is expected to work as an attending anesthesiologist two days a week (0.4 FTE) in either the main operating room at BWH or one of the non-operating room locations as determined by the needs of the Department of Anesthesiology. The other 0.4 (FTE) (2 days/ week) will be spent on different rotations outlined above, and the remaining 0.2 FTE (1 day/week) will be reserved for research projects.

Q. What are the annual salary and benefits like?
A. The starting salary for a PGY-5 in 2026 is $102,466. Employment benefits include health, dental, disability and other insurance. For more information please refer to FREIDA and our Resources for Trainees page

Q: Do you sponsor Visas?
A. At this time, our institution sponsors both H1b and J1 Visas.
Q. Is moonlighting available?
A. Moonlighting is available within the Mass General Brigham System to residents at the CA-2 level of training or higher. Fellows need permission from the Program Director and must have obtained a full medical license, Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration (MCSR) and Federal DEA numbers. Moonlighting Fellows cannot be on a J1 Visa.
