Thank you for your interest in the Joint Mass General Brigham Neuroanesthesia Fellowship program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). We are truly proud of the fellowship experience we offer at our institutions. We have been fortunate to build a joint Mass General Brigham Neuroanesthesia Fellowship Program providing an unmatched diversity of clinical cases, research and public service opportunities at BWH and MGH. We foster an atmosphere where our fellows thrive to fully realize their highest potential as expert clinicians, teachers, and scientists.

Diplomates of our fellowship will go on to become leaders in the field of neuroanesthesiology.

The Joint Mass General Brigham Neuroanesthesia Fellowship offered in affiliation with Harvard Medical School is designed to produce world-class physicians in the field of perioperative neurosciences, capable of improving outcomes in patients with critically ill neurologic conditions. The fellowship is accredited by the International Council on Perioperative Neuroscience Training (ICPNT), which establishes standards of training.

Overview

The Neuroanesthesia fellowship has been in existence since 1992 and was accredited by ICPNT in 2023. The fellowship is either 12 or 18 months depending on the educational and academic goals of the fellow.

The Mass General Brigham Neuroanesthesia Fellowship Program is structured to provide fellows with a comprehensive perioperative clinical experience balanced with formal didactics, conferences, and research. Fellows will develop sufficient depth of understanding and proficiency in the perioperative evaluation, management, and follow-up of complex neurosurgical patients, so they can serve as expert consultants to our surgical, medical and anesthesiology colleagues. Overall, the goal is to achieve a comprehensive and complete training with clinical experience, education and research.

The fellow is also expected to attend and present at the annual Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care (SNACC) conference.

Curriculum

This one-year fellowship includes rotations in Neurosurgery operating rooms, Neuro-Interventional Radiology Suites, Neuromonitoring, Neuro-Intensive care units, as well as research in neurosciences, under the supervision of our well-experienced faculty. Additional elective rotations are available. We offer flexibility in fellowship, with attending time built in for non-neurologic cases.

The fellow is also expected to attend and present at the annual Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care (SNACC) conference.
