Overview
The Division of Allergy and Clinical Immunology has made pioneering advancements in allergy and immunology for more than 50 years and is considered one of the largest research groups in this field in the country.
Research focus areas
Our research portfolio spans from basic immunology discoveries to disease pathogenesis and translational studies, as well as clinical and population health, to accelerate “bench-to-bedside” discoveries. We have active research and studies in the following areas:
- Immune function of lipid mediators
- Innate immunity and inflammation
- Lymphocyte biology
- Immunometabolism
- Mast cell biology
- Immunoglobulin generation and evolution
- Microbiome research and immunocyte development
- Genomics and metabolomics of asthma and chronic inflammatory disease
- Immunodeficiency
- Eosinophilic esophagitis
- Clinical trials in asthma, aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease, chronic sinusitis
- Clinical trials in mast cell disorders, peanut allergies, cephalosporin allergies, itch and chronic hives

Our teams at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital provide expert diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment for patients of all ages with all types of immune and allergic conditions. All of our specialists are certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology, and many are sub-specialists in internal medicine, pediatrics, pulmonary diseases, and dermatology.
